Are pure Rays a thing of the past?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I personally have nothing against a hybrid at all. I don't have any interest in having a fashion show in regards to the name. I just have an interest in not destroying a pure ray and only have the hobby consumed by hybrids because what happens if something were to happen to a natural population? We as a hobby are the only ones who could save it and bring it back or even just have pure rays. Imo sometimes simple is better I just like to know how I got to where I have with my hybrids so I know what's in the mix not just mixing rays with other rays that I know nothing about. Like I said I absolutely love hybrids and will make them myself, I just don't want to see us stray away and ruin something that is naturally beautiful and simple. Crazy rays with crazy rays look a little excessive to me they need something simple to really glorify how off the wall they truly are. This is just my personal opinion. I just love all rays it's just an interesting topic to explore and find people's opinions on!

The thing is if we ever need pure bloods we can always get them from the wild so a pure strain will never be lost

It's not a bad thing not as bad as mixing two totally different types of in a test tube

Parrot fish flower horn rtcxtsn they are totally different types of fish that would never cross breed in a tank

Rays x breeding is something they chose to do

Rays x breeding are not actually a hybrid
They are the same type of animal
If a Asian man has a baby with a African woman we wouldn't call the child a hybrid

Do you guys consider BD Leo a hybrid? Or King hen X henlei?

Technically same species, but different variants.

I get p12 x p13 and p14 x p13 those are different species from same genus but it seems like many consider even BD Leo as hybrid.

Just an idea. Why don't we organize a freshwater stingray group that logs and classifes species of Rays and their offspring in the USA. Kinda like the "akc" of dogs but for rays. That way we can preserve bloodlines and value of stingrays in the us. Make our bloodlines and hybrids desirable in Asia and a chance for us to make some coin in this hobby.

I have been saying the same thing for years, first on flatfish then here. IMO all rays should be chipped.
I prefer 100% pure blood rays for my tanks BUT can also admire some of the hybrids

what would you call them if someone asked the child's nationality. I'm glad we don't have to be so politically correct when talking about ray's people always calling them black or brown lol. I call my nefews half white half Hispanic if someone asks kinda like Leo henlei. So I politely disagree and will now call nephews hybrids they will think it sounds cool.

I Think hybrid implies a cross of species?

White, black, brown humans all same species. Other than about 2-3% neanderthal blood in Caucasian and Asian populations.

Nationality would be American, British, Canadian, etc. Race (Ethnicity often used) would be white and Hispanic mix.

The chipping was tried years ago by from and Nico it never caught on

To many breeders around the world to get a accurate data base

Bd Leo is a hybrid they are just a mix of lower and higher grade both p13

If I'm right in Asia they don't even class them as hybrids they call them SP Rays if I remember right
