Are pure Rays a thing of the past?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
only 5 years hybrids were rare and people were a lot more critical of them. the thing to remember, high quality hybrids are rare and are very expensive.
so the market will be flooded with cheap low grade ones. most of the these low grades will be sold as motoro. and here is you problem.

same deal with flowerhorns. sure they look great and are easy to breed. but to get a good looking one you will have to pay over a lot of money.
so fish stores are full of junk flowerhorns sold as generic chichlids

Dang ugly hybrids...worthless.

Ya I'm sorry but man if I had that ray I could never sell it because I wouldn't want to have to grace anyone with that terrible eye sore of a ray to look at;)

But in all seriousness it is all a matter of opinion and that's what I wanted to see from people is where they stand on the topic so this is an everyone is welcome thread! I like to see both sides of the story like where everyone stands! So if you are a purist that's perfectly fine! If not that's ok too! It's all about a good discussion and not a fight and I would like the thread to stay that way and so far so good from everyone! Love to continue to read up on this so keep it coming everyone!

No doubt there are some ugly hybrids across the fish world...but there are some outstanding hybrids as well.

Need to keep pure bloods and high quality hybrids both IMO.

Some of the high end hybrid rays go for thousands more than the most expensive pure bloods...they have their place and are not going anywhere.

If you are for pure bloods then by all means, breed the best to keep em available.

Very well balanced post Scott, couldn't have put it better myself.

Quality will prevail, pure blood or hybrid, it makes no difference.

ARE PURE BLOODS A THING OF THE PAST?........ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE!!

You need to get lower grade hybrids before you get the higher grade stuff it's how they progress or did you think pedigree dogs was created overnight

well, these non-purist are ruining a large number of captive species. just look at common angelfish and live breeders. you cant even tell
which species they are because they are hybrids upon hybrids upon hybrids

Do you need to keep repeating yourself over and over again

Any good Ray keeper should be able to tell a hybrid from a pure blood with easy

i am not sure. there so many un-ided wild rays. it's hard to name even the pure bred ones.

No it's not hard at all if someone is thinking of spending a few thousand dollars on bd they should have done lots of reading to know what they are buying so they don't get ripped off

That's what forums are for if someone is unsure what a Ray is they can post to ask what it is

You say the angle trade is messed up with all the hybrids I say it gives people more selection if they want hybrids they can buy them if they want pure bloods they can buy them to
More selection is a better thing surely
