Hello all. I seen an online advertisment on the Rena XP3. Is this filter any good or should I go with the Eheim Pro2 Or Fluval FX5?

Don't know what to do? If anyone can give recomendation.

On the one hand I like the price & simple design of the the Rena...And it looks like a reliable filter. But on the other hand I have heard some great reviews on the Eheim.

Your replies are greatly appreciated.

i've had the xp3 for six months its easy to clean and prime also is very quiet very happy with it so far just fill with pot scrubbers and remove carbon and save for later

I also have an XP3, have only had it couple of months but i am not disappointed.
I've never owned an Eheim or Fluval so i cannot compare them personally, but from what ive researched there has been a fair bit of bad feedback on the Fluval 04/05 series.
All of the Eheim canister feedback ive researched has been good (except the price tag).

I originally bought my XP3 on a budget, but i will definately stick with the Rena's in the future, budgeted or not.

Thanks for you feedback.

What is your maintenence schedule like with this filter?...Have you had to do monthly cleaning or did you have to wait a little longer?

Thanks...That is what is holding me back from buying the Eheim$$$-The price tag. Although I know you get what you pay for. But the Rena's design straight of the bat looks solid also. And since I too an on a budget I think that is the way I want to go.

In your experience has it worked silently?, & Does it have an adjustable outake valve?

Sorry for all the ???'s I just want to get this right.

I've been running an Eheim Classic 2217 on a 75...so quiet you can't even tell its running...and next to zero maintenance as well.

Keeps up with 2 x 6" sevs and a 7" oscar, water is crystal clear.

I can imagine the Eheim pro would function even better.

I run xp3s on my 75 gallon tanks and I am quite happy with them. They are not as silent as an Eheim, but they are not that loud either. I have 2 running in the living room and I hear the refrigerator, running some 20 ft away, over the xp3s noise. The central air is louder than the xps are, so I can't complain. My Eheim using buddies always mention that they hear it when they come over, but I think they are just mad that they paid 2-3 times as much and my tanks are just as clean and clear as theirs. Either way you go you shouldn't be dissapointed.

Since the early 90's, my tanks were filtered by the original Fluval 403's....I've kept one running for almost 12 years, then I accidently dropped the thing and I lost it....After researching and price comparing, I found myself switching to the Rena's xP class....

I've owned my xP3 for almost 5 months now...Love the thing...I clean it once a month...Very quiet filter....As for media, the bottom layer is filled with pre-filter sponges...The middle and top layer is filler with crushed coral...

Recently I discovered the wonders of a wet/dry filter....How one can easily make a sump out of basic Office Depot supplies for under $25....Plus the whole thought of using those scrubbies as medias, saves a bunch of money.....Anyways, for tanks under 100g, I use the combination: Rena xP3(for chemical filtration) and AC110's(for mechanical filtration).....

This sounds like a great idea. Thanks for the insight. I will run an XP3 & a AC110. I have an AC30 on my 10-gallon, I have no complaints. It runs well and keep my water clear.

Thanks for all your comments.:headbang2
