Are Rena Filters Any Good?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just set mine up a week ago, have it with just over 2 quarts of seachem bio matrix in there, my tank seems extra clean and clear now

I've been running 2 xp-3s on my 120g for a year and a half with no complaints. Easy to prime, loaded with media, great results.

I've been using the XP3 and XP2 for over a year and just had the o-ring on my xp3 snap on me last week, other than that no problems. Boxing day I picked up the XP4 and it works great just like the other two. Easy maintenance, nice price tag, and good performance, I'm sticking with Rena for awhile :)

I just wanted to say thank to everyone's insight on this. But I must say that I caved in and spent a little extra on the Eheim. I purchased the Pro2 w/Media combo package. For only about 219.99, not too bad. I just got it today delivered from www.Bigalsonline.com I will keep you posted in how this filter works form me, either in this thread or another.

:headbang2 Thanks again everyones reply is much appreciated!:headbang2

I have XP3s on several smaller tanks and they've been working great. When the XP4 came out, I jumped on the opportunity to try their 'improved' filter. What a piece of junk. Worst filter I've tried in over 25 years. Their new stronger motor has eaten 3 impellers in less than 6 months. The filter was only enlarged in the vertical aspect and is too narrow to run for any length of time without clogging. I have to shut it down and clean the med and fine pads weekly.
For larger tanks, steer clear of the XP4 like it has herpes.

Thanks for the informative post oddball, glad I got the xp3 and avoided herpes! :)
no CTD's for me! (Cansister Transmitted Diseases)

I have had my xp3 on my 75g for around 4 months now. I love it compared to my fluval 305. It's easy to clean with big media baskets. I clean mine roughly once a month, and it's quiet. I would purchase again.
