Are the Legends True?

90% of fish that I have that has recieved names have parished :cry:
The best story I can think of at the moment was this girl at work wanted to name my betta that I had on my desk. I told her that it was bad luck for fish to have names. She didn't believe me and named my fish Rob. A few weeks later, I went on a small vacation and she thought she would be nice and change the water while I was away. She got water from our water dispenser. Problem was...it was ICE COLD. My fish went into shock and died. Everyone told me she started to cry and felt so bad. I couldn't be upset at her since she was trying to be helpful. But I told her jokingly, "See what happens when you name fish!"
 
It is also bad luck to transport piranha in you underpants, eels are okay though.
 
never heard that curse but I don't, personally, name my fish anyway.

No, LOL I do not believe in the curse with naming your fish. I do however believe in a sideline of that curse - never name a replacement fish after the origional! I did that once just because I loved my lil' puffer so much when died (had him for like 5 years), so I got another one, a baby, named him the same as the first -- two weeks later, he pulled a nemo on me! Never had "2nd's" or "Jr.'s" since!!!

it's funny, we actually have a similar belief being on our crew team about renaming boats. in order to rename a boat, you have to 1) totally overhaul it, make it really nice and new-like, and 2) get rid of all physical occurances of it's old name (logs, records, etc.).

a couple of years ago we got a new shell (well, new to us), it needed a bunch of work to get it into good shape, and after some large donations, we decided to rename it. well, we did a superb job of overhauling it, but failed to remove all traces of it's original name. So 2 months down the road (after spending 4 months overhauling), on the way to a regatta we stopped for gas and our trailer, with 5 boats on it, clipped a post and ripped the ends off of all our boats, leaving not even one in good enough condition to be repaired. coincidence, i think not.
 
Most of my friends where i live follow the "don't name your fish rule." As for me, well my roommate and I give my fish "nicknames" they are not 'really' their names and we tell them that they are not really their names. We also follow that "don't pass on names to replacement fish" we try to find similar names. Like my fan tail goldfish died "Mr Wiggles'' so when we got two lionhead replacements we named them "flutters and Wobbles". Ya i know we are silly .
 
as a general rule i dont name fish except for unusual curcumstances.
i named my uaru amp twitchy as she does this twitchy thing which i find funny, all my other fish have no names
 
I named my king kong parrot Godzilla :D . he almost died last knight along with both my carapos. I would not lose my best fish :swear: I saved them. everythings fine now
 
Fish for me only get names if they do something which I think merits a name. Or if I get attached to them, but that hasn't happened yet
