are these chichlids rare?

After reading your profile and previous posts..... your 16yrs old, in a previous post you mention you have a dam on your parents property. So either you have stocked your dam with cichlids(which is highly illegal especially if it is connected to a native river or could over flow/flood into a native river) or your telling tall stories....(i still can't believe you caught these fish in a "lake")

That is why your country has banned many nice fish, stupid people release their aquarium fish in ponds:grinyes:

:iagree:

But if I ever became Bill Gates rich I'd have crystal clear lakes on see-though levies stocked with nothing but the sickest collection of cichlids in the world. "sigh", it's nice to dream.

gday,
they are in a lake called hazlewood pondage, it is a cooling system for the gippsland power plant ( a quick google search will tell you wat else you can catch there) the water is very warm and is home to many tropical fish including angel fish, the cichlids i mentioned, guppies(by the billions) i think the people introduced these fish so it would reduce the local mosquito fish population. it work but now there woring on destroying all the other fish there.

HAZLEWOOD PONDAGE, DONT BELEIVE ME, DO A GOOGLE SEARCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :swear: :swear:

hey, you guys should google it. That is amazing that these fish can even live in a lake as opposed to the river type environment. Seriously, that is one unique lake.

took a bit of searching but i found a bit of info on it, its an artificial "lake"(pondage) created for the power station(s) which has high temps. You weren't very clear in your original post, sounded like you had a natural lake near your place that cichlids had over run!

Why didn't you just say there is an artificial lake that was build for a powerstation near your house that ppl have released cichlids into.........

Anyways i spose i stand corrected, good find! :)
