Hey i live in Gippsland bout 1 hr from Hazlewood. A lot of ppl are skeptic about Hazelwood pondage. The story is, Hazlewood pondage is a water body that is used to cool the nearby powerstation. Because of this the water is always about 26 celsius...perfect for cichlids. In the 1970s some guy wanted to get rid of a heap of cichlids for some reason and really didnt want to kill them. So he released them into the pondage. Since then they have thrived. Ive fished there heaps of time and caught Convict Cichlids, Red Devils, Zebra (pseudotropheus) cichlids, and these bigarse Tilapia cichlids. Ive never caught guppies though.
- The lake is near Traralgon, Victoria. You can see the powerplant miles away. Find that and the road signs will point you to the pondage. Its not a private lake or anything and is very public and ppl swim n jetski and all kinds of stuff. You can catch the devils and talapia and big zebras on light tackle but get a bait trap for convicts. The best spot lies under a bridge. You can see the fish take your line.
