are these good quality fh fries ???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So you got my answer a 4-5 on a scale of ten for me. Now what is the relevance of showing that picture and having me grade it? There's a general consensus to grading as the majority hates a huge monster kok but likes a decent one showing. Color has to be there for everyone and fin/body shape is arguable. The only reason I rate it high is the color. Now you received your answer so why did you ask me this?
Answer this.

Danielcho in an effort to get this thread back on track i have a question for you. You posted up several young fh that showed great potential in the traits you want in them and have stated you keep your fish for life. Do you have pictures of them as they are now or if you have lost them how they finished off looking before? I am curious with the amounts you paid for them how it worked out and feel it is relevant as a comparison to the OP getting their fish and seeing how they turn out for them.

The first two are very recent, but the last rd has grown a decent amount. Videos are better than pictures right? Luckily I took a quick video after moving the tank around and a quick water change. Sorry for crappy quality and the sun in the video.

No I don't, because that was in response to your comment..... I asked you something, and you couldn't ANSWER it. Instead you started defending your classroom genetics knowledge!

When the parents are low quality, but there may be good quality genes in the gene pool, there is a chance however slim, that some fry will turn good quality. For that you need to see signs/ hints of the recessive desirable gene traits in those small percentage of fries. And when that chance is a matter of shelling out $4 compared to $100 plus, we experienced hobbyists take that chance!... And with experience we do pick up stunners for as little as a few dollars.

Now answer my first question to you..... If you can, that is!

So you state you're an experienced hobbyist that can see potential in fry and takes the chance correct? Let's see some pictures of your actual gambles.

Yes I personally like video over pictures because they are more revealing. Pictures can lie rather it is the fault of the camera or the one taking the picture. I do like your FH he is very nicely put together. I really like him cruising the tank with his kok sticking out of the water like a shark.lol...

After a nights sleep after my posts on here i wanted to say something. People always ask us to grade or rank potential of their FH or other hybrids but do not always list what they are hoping for. A fish can be a stunner in a few traits and lacking or poor in others. For example very nice color with perfect markings but have poor finnage and wrong body type. A fish of this type may be perfectly suited as a show piece in a display tank but a poor choice for a breeding program. So in simpler words a fish can be graded high quality for a display fish but low or average quality as a breeder. If people asking for our opinions would offer up more info of their goals and wishes when asking we could answer more precisely.

I agree that those on here that posted pictures should when possible show both their fry or juvi fh pictures and a picture of how they turned out. These are helpful for the op and others reading the thread and possibly contemplating which way they want to go with getting a fh.
I myself have just a few pure fh and acquired them for marking and color traits for my red texas project not for their overall quality. In short i got them for their red or very orange color bases, pearling, fertility and in a few fading genes present in the belief of them producing red texas of higher color quality.

so what ive learned here is that if my grand pa is brad pitt and my dad and i look like we got beat with ugly sticks then my son could still look like brad pitt ?

X2 and thank you for the complements. Kookie post some pictures of YOUR low quality fry that have become stunners as you state your an experienced hobbyist that can pick them out

I've been keeping an eye on this thread for awhile now. First I will say I've never owned a f/h, but I have a question. If you aren't entering your fish in a competition and your fish gives you hours of enjoyment, who cares about what grade it is or other people's opinions.its lineage or genes. Enjoy your fish for the pet it is.beauty is in the eye of the beholder sort of thing.
