I dont think its choosing the easy way out.
I have a friend that is getting his masters in divinity so we have this convo alot;
Here is my short and simple feeling of God.
The more scientific break throughs the more Powerful and Awesome God becomes. Take evolution for example, before evolution (now I know some people think if you believe in evolution you cant believe in God but again this is my opinion) people thought we were just created.
Since evolution is very credible and amazing how it works, again in my mind, it makes me think how amazing God must be to have set evolution in motion.
Untill science can verify 100% how the universe was created, I will think that every scientific discovery and break through only reminds us of how Great God is.
Ironic that the science that reminds how us great God is can ulitmately (again my opinion, though I doubt this will ever happen) disprove his existence.

I gave up on god earlier this years. I felt the same was a you JD7.62 (I'm assuming this from your post), I thought god existed, I thought humans were created by evolution, as, in my opinion as the same as your's JD, evolution is very credible. But I figured, It doesn't worry me, It's not going to affect me, So who gives, No one can provide you the correct answers, etc. So thats what drove me to the conclusion of everything was just here, No evolution, No nothing. We were all just here, we just appeared - Don't ask me why, I don't care why

It is inevitable that in your life time you will feel God. It could be the seconds before you die, but I garruntee you that before you do, you will feel God.
