Are you a Brand Loyalist?

I am all over, but I stick to the stuff I like and avoid the stuff I don't like.

For example, I love Hagen Aquaclear filters but hate their heaters and fluval canisters

I love aqueon tanks, lights and glass tops but their filters and heaters are garbage.

I love Rena XP canisters but wouldn't touch their HOB filters if you paid me.

I love eheim's Eheim (Ebo) jager heaters. only brand I will use.

I avoid all marineland products as all are inferior quality IMO to other alternatives out there. much of this is due to the fact that when they took over Perfecto products, they left the crappy quality the same without making improvements to the tanks and hardware. The glass on my Aqueon 150g is thicker than that of a Marineland/Perfecto 265g for example. only by a hair, but still thinner none the less. missed opportunity there IMO. It would have been nice to see them make improvements on the Perfecto line of tanks. thicker glass, less flimsy cross braces etc.

I do like their deep dimension line of tanks though. they are really nice.

lets hope the quality of those tanks starts to trickle down to their standard lineup of tanks.

Howdy,

Once you've been in the hobby for a while you've figured out what works and what doesn't. You'll know what is cheap and breaks and what lasts. You'll be able to do the math and happily spend an extra dollar more up front for Brand X and get long-term satisfaction. You'll also know where to cut corners safely. You'll try Brands Y & Z a few times, but at the end, you'll know what brand best suits your needs. From then on, I see very little benefit in spending money on brands that have previously let me down, even if they come with so-called new & improved products.

A Hyundai will never be a Mercedes. It just depends on what you want from your ride.

That's where my brand loyalty comes from.
