I think you may have misunderstood me...the guy was running his ray tank in the high 80's as a normal constant temp. There is solid evidence that this will drastically shorten the life of a ray. I run temps at 80-82 for pups to get them gaining weight fast, also like to run a higher temp for newly aquired WC rays to get them eating and stable. Larger established rays mid to upper 70's is where I'm comfortable keeping the temps. So you think I'm wrong, yet you follow the same method? Confusing
I read the thread as well. He was asking about different growth rates and seemed interested in knowing why the rays weren't growing out at the same pace. He was running the temp high to grow them out is what I got out of the posts.

Running High temps is like running at the red line on your tachometer. You can do it for short periods and not hurt anything, but constantly using it is going to mess stuff up.

Good times........ :)

Yearly bump.

Wonder what Webbers up to????

You know what REALLY peaks my interest in this thread?

The thought of this guy's rant on the subject of too much bling....... I think I'd pay money to hear it.

Not to mention some of the other mentioned subjects like the health perils of importing from Europe especially in a day and age where we arre paying MORE for "mutts" then pure blooded rays.
He was like the Nostradamus of ray keepers back rhen. LOL

Bump this gem up. Found it on accident when looking for something totally different. Couldn’t put it down.

interested to hear any current thoughts on the subject and if anyone that has already read it has implemented the temp change schedule for cooling at nights.

I would definitely like to try it at some point.

Gold tier wasn't my doing..... lol. I'm just a cockroach that doesn't know when to go away and stay away. I'm not sure respected is the terminology I'd use either. Whethered maybe? Too stupid to quit maybe? Really pissed off about being a failure for so many years would be how I'd put it..... lmao.

As far as "schooling" I'm definitely no teacher cause I assume I'm still doing stuff wrong.... I would like to think that I'm just a team player in this collective to try to figure out how to properly care for rays. I'm here to learn, not to school, but IF I can help some others out along the way I'm more then willing....... :)

I've always had water issues. David just helped me to understand water better. I don't think I'm in any place to tell anyone how to do stuff, BUT I do have some experiece in trying to keep rays in crappy water. I'd like to think that eventually all the work will pay off and I'll have happy rays like the guys I look up to have, but I can assure you, my rays are definitely not happy yet. But I think that's cause the water I'm dealt is pretty hard compared to what most other keepers have.......

I don’t like false humility. Take the damn compliment and help me keep my rays alive please. Lol.

those guys you look up to in the hobby- your that for me and a few others on here as well. Now that we are past that, how can I read up on some of these mistakes you made so hopefully I can avoid some of them if possible.

ps. I like your idea about the ray checklist. Sounds like a thread that should happen aka a new sticky to be made. More of general rule of thumb to help in process of starting into rays that could save new keepers trouble in the long run.
