Are you serious???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You can't tell me that students and people in general aren't surrounded on a daily basis by proper grammer examples.

The number one issue for educators today is NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND. Improperly mislabeled and misleading law created by people who are not in education.

Here we go blaming the teacher....

Next thing I will hear is that teachers spend way to much time surfing the net and MFK when they should be teaching.

:D i'm only an assistant teacher until i finish my degree may 2011  so i get lots of free time, none of the paper work and 2 weeks off becasue its the easter holidays over here!

yeah, i've seen plenty of 3rd/4rd generation american with THICK accentsand poor grmmatical skills.
i'm only 3rd generation fro my dad's side of the family, but i speaks gud.
plus the written word, is but a speck in the shadow of the mountain that is my auritory skill. i think that makes up for slacking off a little on the internet....

Amen brother!!!

Well, kudos to anyone who was not raised in a home where English was the primary language, and yet manages to put together a sentence that anyone else can understand. As opposed to the bumpkin from middle america who believed that school was pointless except for the football team (not that there's anything wrong with football)!

I agree with your point. I'm not doing a study but I bet some of the people here who have bad grammar either have it because a rush to type or just don't care. I think you're right and I don't think demographics have much to do with it. But what can you do about it? I will also say though that when this is done with no periods/capitalization/etc it's a bear to try and read their post. :(

Why is the NCLB the number one issue for Educators? Please expand on your comments, I'd like to hear your opinions?

Admittedly I'm speaking from very little experience! Like a typical Californian my views are biased around where I live, and since teaching is not my profession I don't take much interest in what's involved or the problems it faces outside of what I'm told to for assignments!

The only places I've really been outside of California long enough to gather any sort of opinion are Ft. Sill OK and San Antonio TX, but I suppose TX isn't a very good example either since it's population resembles that of Southern California pretty heavily.

Our Professor was also telling us that they've finally implemented a new grading system where children aren't just shuffled through elementary school. She said it used to be that if a rich parent wanted their kid in an honors class, they'd get into the honors class - regardless of if they were dumb as a brick or not.

I know the standards outside of our Country, especially in Japan are off the wall. From what I've read kids over there in the 8th grade are on par with our communit college students, which is just ridiculous.

I wasn't trying to use the English as a second language thing as an excuse for poor teaching, just simply that it's somthing to take into consideration when reading over some of these posts.
