Are Your Gatf's Nocturnal?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think the key is to design the tank so they can't see you.....

Between the crazy amount of bubble infused current and several pieces of driftwood to break up lines of sight I've had a significant improvement in freak outs. Now if they get startled they just go to their corner and chill between 2 piles of driftwood, they used to just spaz and run up and down the walls. I have so many bubbles going that it's actually kind of hard to see in there. This seemed to calm them down significantly.

Tatf here, not Gatf.

I feed in the morning and at night and they seem to eat better at night.

The current will also help with getting them onto other foods. I have enough current that the food will actually whirl up off the bottom and sail across the tank. They just catch it on the way by.

I noticed that as well, more bubbles, less spooks. I've also blacked both left and right sides of my tank as well. My kids don't exactly know not to mess with the tank but they don't go by it either and if they do bits to one of the sides playing hide and seek. I thinks its about time to move my bichir to another tank as well, he got spooked and went crazy when the bichir came from his hid spot! Its twice about 1/3 longer than my atf!

+1 with the bubbles .... all the noise and action def helps them not to freak in my experience as well

All I did was notch the 1.5" return above the water line and this did a pretty good job of filling the tank with bubbles. They seem larger then what you get from an air pump and cover about half my 4x3. Just did an air stone below a Korilia for the other half.

My silver dollars, and giant danios have a pretty tough time traveling the tank.... lol Even the bala has troubles at times. The fact that none of these guys ever really seem damaged makes me think there might be magic in the bubbles......

i have only had a taft. He seems to be pretty active at night. All my losses due to him happen then.

I can testify to the efficacy of bubbles as well. It makes sense if you think about it though. Tigers are white water fish, the bubbles are their security net. They're one of those species that always runs for the rapids when hooked!

I recently just customized my air pump to be directed to two tanks and roughted two black air lines into my tiger tank. I'm not sure if it produces any more than the previous one stone, but it did eliminate the ugly clear tube running all the way to the bottom of the tank. My canister filters outlet flows right through the bubbles and makes a mess of them! Everyone always asks me what is floating in my tank and I laugh knowing they have no clue 10% of my water is bubbles lol! At night both my fish swim in the eddies (thanks to Chic for his advice on current) and no more skittishness from my tiger; and my scomb eats a lot better.

Very cool

I actually noticed him swimming right into the current last night when the lights were off. As long as i walk by very slowly he dosnt seem to spook very much.

Whats the growth rate on GATFs?
