I think he sent me a Red Isletas but marked it as a Barred Midas. I mean look how red he is and Barred Midas do not get this red. What do you guys think?
polomax had some really red midas, red isletas only really get the red around the face and throat

Cross that looks like a huge male barred.
Is that the big Barred alone in like the 150.
FEMALE TIME, make some babies.
nice tank btw.

He's not alone anymore as he is with a 7-8" Male Istlanum. I will eventually breed him when the Istlanum goes into his own tank. The pics with White sand is when he was in my 125 but he moved to his 150. He was 10"+ in the pics of white sand and he was 11" when I moved him into his new home. He is now 13" or so.

Thanks OscarGuy

I think I remember seeing his. I'd Rather have the whole Midas red, black and white rather than just a red face.

Mine aren't very red. Actually, someone was capping on mine saying if mine was a Red Isletas, his must be a SUPER Red.

I just got a female in hope of forming a pair but for the most part, they get pink and that's about it.

Still a super cool fish.

GET SOME PICS PICS PICS, i love barred's lol.

Any chance that you have a 'red' barred midas? I know there are a few breeders out there working with this red varient and yours looks very similiar.

I know of atleast two different large Amphilophus breeders that have sent out alot of fry from their red barred pairs. I'm not sure if Jeff got his hands on some or not.

Stunning fish by the way!

I know CJexotics had reds at one time. I remember Jeff saying something like he was from a Famous Barred Midas named Big Head.

Thank you!

Cross127......... amazing Midas bud! Looks even better over dark gravel/sand!

The 'big head' line that Jeff is talking about actually comes from cichlid scene rather than CJexotics. Jeremy with CJ's does have a big head line but it's not the same and I don't think he bred his with his red line....did that make sense?

I know for a fact that there are several spawns from Jeremy's red line out there but again I'm not sure if Jeff ever got any.

I just think that your fish resembles a red barred rather than a red Isletas. I'm NOT however trying to second guess Jeff's suppliers or descriptions. Just wanted to make that clear.

There is another varient out there similiar to the red isletas, it's the Costa Rican red face midas. The difference is the collection points. Maybe you have that varient appose to the red isletas.

If I was you I'd just be happy that I have such a great looking specimen, a pure one at that. With so many hybrids out there it's nice to see pure citrinellus.
