Armatus eating habits?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Maybe once or twice a month.

I'm new with armatus still, but seems like they don't need/want to bed fed everyday, or fed to the point where they feel stuffed. Mine ate like a pig everyday to the point where he had a big round belly. He now hasn't eaten in over a week but just started showing interest in food again. Once he starts eating, I'm only going to feed a few pieces of talapia every other day or every third day and see if that makes a difference in his appatite and mood (still really shy and skittish)

Also, how do yours respond to light? Mine seems to hate my day bulb (4800K) but loves my moonlight or no lights at all.

I had the same thing going on with my tatauaia. didn't like to over eat. as soon as there was a small bulge in his stomache, that's all he'd eat for the day. I think it's pretty normal for payaras to eat in conservative amounts.. unless it's live food

I have basic hood lights on my tank but I rarely turn them on since there is enough light in my basement to view my fish with the ceiling lights or from the windows.

try LEDs, Its easyer on there eyes, I use them for my payaras, knifes and piranhs. it makes them more active I think!

my armatus hates it when i turn my tank light on. It freaks out and begins to swim around franticly.

Maybe I should be useing my moonlights more then. I made it with led lights. My lfs usualy has like a random discount pile with old equipment and stock. Maybe I can find a smaller, led light fixture.

are odoes good tankmates with armatus?

Odoes are considered almost Jardini-like in their ability to be tankmates. Some do ok, but they are known for being buggers that kill tankmates for no apparent reason. It's a crap shoot. :/

I think it would be gangster as hell if you could get all five domesticated payara; H. tatauaia, H. scomberoides, Rhaphiodon and Cynodon. :D
