Armatus Keepers out there ....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Was the fish breathing hard at all. I have my armatus in 86* water with lots of flow and aeration
sorry if someone posted this already..to lazy to read Atm

what do you have for aeration? Mine's 17" and thick, I do water changes twice a week 50% or close to it. It takes large smelt, & 5" sunnies

i have tons of aeration, and mine were never breathing heavy, except this one that passed and only in his last day of life. But someone else posted about my temp being too high, so i was responding to that.

Keep the water 4" or more below the lids. This fish can go up fast during feeding time or when it got spook, hit the head hard on the lids, and die from head injury

thank you for the link ... i will stop smelt and shrimp feeding for the time being, and only do it occasionally. Been wanting to get everyone in the tank eating pellets anyway, guess theres no better time to start then now. Thanks

I forgot about that thread....The thiaminase probably puts smelt and minnows on a par with goldfish in terms of nutrition.

I mentioned the goldfish comparison because they usually don't have an immediate effect on fish that eat them due to that substance and as I mentioned previously,I had other issues with using smelt that I am sticking to lol.....I give my armatus a rotation of tilapia fillet and raw shrimp but I think I'm going to drop in a pinky mouse as something of a birthday treat.
