in the wild they eat shrimps in the rivers, with head and tail.

why dont we do it?
who does this?
or is ita no no?
i seen videos in singapore breeding ponds of whole prawns alive with head tail and pincers being fed to aro, and they eat it whole.

why is it so looked down upon.?

i don't because i do not want to run the risk of puncturing anything. i have fed live crawfish to oscars in the past with no problems.

if you watch closely when you feed them a whole shrimp they gill rake it till most of the shell and head is removed and spat out , its just a cleanliness thing in captivity .
Also the whiskers of some shrimp turn into needles once they have been frozen.
Live shrimp would be no problem .

I usually buy headless shrimp, but I leave the shells on when I feed to my fish. The only thing I remove is the stinger on the tail.

They do it to copy their situation in the wild...lol

< we really need a sarcasm smilie >

my father once fed my silver aro a live shrimp, i was so afraid when i knew he did, but my aro surpassed that ordeal, i don't recommend it though.

i don't have live shrimp availible to me or i would do it...i don't take the shell off the shrimps unless my aro is in a picky mood and wont eat it with the shell on...i always have live crayfish in my tank as a food sorce and "clean up" crew...

I don't see aros chasing and eating market sized shrimp in the wild. Shrimp hide in the rocks, they don't fall out of trees.

chaitika, river shrimp is common in the wild and aros do eat them too.
but yes, im sure they eat avaried amount of things
i guess with the price of aros in my country, rather not risk it

Lets not forget that despite the worry it brings people that their are positives to eating shell...
