I would like to get an aro in the near future, and was wondering what kind of food is best to feed them. And also I know they get big in the wild, but how large can one expect them to get inside of a 150-200 gallon tank?

I feed my aro: Feeder Fish, Earthworms, Crickets, Frozen Shrimp from the grocery store, floating fish pellets, and sometimes mealworms :)

Some people might say a 150-200 gal is too small for an aro but you can squeeze one in there.

good quality pellets high in protein, large crickets, raw shrimp, some people dip food for aros in liquid vitamins or gut the crickets and shrimp with pellets or flakes

Pellets, beefheart, market shrimp (Raw), crickets......thats mainly what I feed mine.

You can expect 3ft in a home aquarium.

i've fed mine krill, cichlid gold, market shrimp, tilapia fillet, beefheart, eartworms, mealworms, crickets, feederfish. had mine in a 150g. grew to foot and gave him to my brother to put in his 300g. you could probably grow it to almost 2 feet in a 150. but i recomend a longer wider tank.

WOW! I didn't know that they got that big in a home aquarium. How do you like your aro's vs. other fish. Are they ravenous (spelled wrong i think) eaters? And do they tend to be escape artists?

They sound and look like nice fish to keep, but I don't think I'd be able to have one if a 200 gallon would be too small. Not enough room for a tank that big yet.

the absolute minimum tank size for an aro is a 180 gal

300 will be the bare minimum for life

Thank you. It would be hard for me to give up a fish after I've Had it for too long. I think that before I get one, I'll make sure I have what it takes to keep it for it's life span. Thank you for the good input. I just found this site around a week ago, and everone has been super helpful.

Educating MFK on the Silver Arowana

I'm done with feeders, it's not worth the risk. I used to feeders to cycle my new tank and even after giving them a salt bath, ich and fungus still showed up. Had to scoop out sick and dead fish and medicate my tank for almost a week. :swear:

My aro loves frozen silversides, and used to love live feeders, but as I said earlier I'm not using them anymore. I've tried offering shrimp tails, crickets, and earthworms but he didn't seem interested.
