I'm done with feeders, it's not worth the risk. I used to feeders to cycle my new tank and even after giving them a salt bath, ich and fungus still showed up. Had to scoop out sick and dead fish and medicate my tank for almost a week. :swear:

My aro loves frozen silversides, and used to love live feeders, but as I said earlier I'm not using them anymore. I've tried offering shrimp tails, crickets, and earthworms but he didn't seem interested.

how big is the fish?

WOW! I didn't know that they got that big in a home aquarium. How do you like your aro's vs. other fish. Are they ravenous (spelled wrong i think) eaters? And do they tend to be escape artists?

check out my sig

you would be suprised what you can keep them with :grinyes:

but its not without risks

I havent lost any fish to my aro and hopefully i never will.

but use caution when choosing smaller guys.

as for ravenous, they do have a big appitite, but they arent as agressive feeders as their asian and australian cousins

but still a big silver feeding is an awsome sight nonetheless.

as for escape artist small one are sneaky, keep even the smallest gaps well covered.

as for the big dude, they arent very speaky.

they use brute force to jump through the lid/hood of a tank, my aro knocked the hood completly off the tank and landed on the floor, she's ok :) , another MFK member Steve 89, his leich aro SMASHED through the glass top of his tank

so a stong lid weighted down with a heavy object such as a brick or large rock is very nessesary :grinyes:

How big is the silver that you are planning to buy? Well, if you buy a small one than a 150-200 will be ok to house the fish for a few years... i'd say about 3-4 years untill you would have to upgrade to a 300+.

hi,
i hope u noe that feeding ur aro on only one type of food is bad.

good aro food include:
-raw market prawns with shell on, cut off head n tail to prevent puncturing the stomach

- superworm( upsized mealworms) fed with spirulina/carrot

-crickets fed with carrots( freeze it and shake hard to remove legs of crickets)

-bullfrogs to build mass/ smaller frogs.

for marketprawns it may take abit training.
however for the insect based foods, ur aro shld take it with ease, or maybe abit of starvation. insects can be the main staple of ur aro, but beware as its very addictive n ur aro may refuse other stuff

hi bro
if not wrong bullfrog got two type, african bullfrog and american bullfrog. maybe its abundant at the states ;D can get free feeder BF, but of cos those found are abit too big. ,maybe make frog leg porridge can, but feed aro, the aro must be one hell of a giant aro

Ofcourse a variance of diet is a must..but there should be a staple food where your aro can eat and the rest can be be fed for snack purposes or as a treat...

mine loves beefheart and krill......but i'm trying to switch to hikari floaing sticks
