You can use either fresh or frozen (thawed) shrimp. Wash them in plain water if you wish.

I always start off with some staple foods (like flakes or pellets) and then top them off with dessert! Try not to feed just the desserts or you may have to hold off on feeding them for a while.

My silver and blacks both get krill as thier staple with cricket four times a week, and quaruntined feeders once a week. I also slip in some african pygmy frogs, waxworms, butterworms, and pinkys sometimes. I pretty try to keep the variety as good as I possibly can. No pellets though, I have heard its better to keep on pellets, but I havent had a problem with the krill. If you go with krill though, plan on lots of huge water changes. I feed the insects after I gut load them on fish food, usualy veggie tabs, for a day.

A varied diet founded on a staple and ocassionally suplimented is the way to go IMHO, always will be with any fish I've had.

how exactly do you guys work this out? im assuming a lot of your guys staples are pellets... how often do you give them treats (once a day, week)? and how much (crickets, market prawn)?
thanks
