Most silver/black arowanas hit 24" in their first year. Not to mention a young aro could be easily killed by a small FH. They're a bit fragile.

I wouldnt say most at all where did you get that info?

My old jar grew from 4 inches to 12 inches which is max in a 55. In 5 months. Then i put him in a 125. Till i got my 240. And a silver will get that size in the same time. I wouldnt put a fh in with a silver in that small of a tank with them being the same size. Im sure the fh would tair it apart. And jars are serious killers. And so are fh cannot predict the out come of that one. But unless it was a big tank i dought they would get along. But old jar smashed to death lots of cichlids including a butti, The flower horn, gt combo might work because gt's are pretty damn tuff. But the ebjd will more then likely get tore up in there. And You still will need a bigger tank for a fh with in that time frame with other fish in there for sure. Just my opionion and good luck. If you want a fh more then likely it is going to turn out to be a solitary fish. But in my opinion if you are going to have a solitary fish that is a buitifull choice.

125cm length, 45 cm width and 1.5 ft height.

Have not set it up yet, but going for FH,GT and Oscar (all 3inches). Upgrading after a 1 and half or 2 years for sure.

1) That bioload for a 75 would be hell on earth
2) When kept in clean water that oscar can reach a foot in a year, FH probably at least 8-10" as well (though im no expert on them) and GT if male pretty big too
3) After all of that and the new impossibility it would be keep that tank clean unless you had about a 20x turnover rate, at some point your FH WILL freak out and kill anything it's with.

Honestly the 55 is probably too small for JUST the FH for the next 2 years, but you can probably pull it off as long as you don't add anything else.

You mentioning 1-2 years living with a 55g........You on Monstefishkeeper.scom, 50% of all members on the board upgrade to larger tanks within 2-5 months of learning more about the hobby here...The other 50% are just drop out feeders..............A JArdini will do fine in a 100g, check craigslist.com for some used ones....Major cities such as Sydney will offer dam good prices for used tanks over 75g+......

I do not think the rules specify you have to have bathtub aquariums to be a part of this forum lol. But, i said 1-2 years because it depends on how my job goes...

Honestly dude, if my contract for my previous job didnt end... $35 an hour at 22 years old lol, i could have owned monsters :/ But my contract ended at a crap time!

If all goes to worst, ill just sell the fish after 1 year and re-stock. Better than being cruel to them. :)

Im not going to say anything about the aro since everyone here as stated it already.

I highly suggest the day before/ day of garbage day drive around town, colleges, and another other bigger areas. you have a decent change to find someone throwing a tank away. even if you see a small tank as a 20 keep it and as you find more, like 55s and what not bundle the items to get a craigslist and buy another tank.

One of the hardest things to do in this hobby is to say no. Trust me the hardest thing for me to do was to tell myself i couldnt keep a monster cat in my 900gallon.

^^Agreed, so hard to say NO!! lol... but Im going to do the responsible thing and just keep FH and GT for a year max..thats it...and this is an AWESOME adventure... going from... 20 gal, to 55 gal...in less than 3 months lol, never know when i will be at your level haha

dont know from experience of keeping the two together but i can definately see a FH constantly terrorizing an arowana... this means lots of messed up fins and scales!!! lots of stress to

Flowerhorns are serious monsters. Not in the awesome and cool way as other fish, more in the "I'm a real prick, and eff anyone who comes anywhere near me!" It's like they know what a horrible abomination they are, and are mad at GOD or something?

Anyway, they are mean, even if kept with other fish as a young fish, they always come to the point where they realize they aren't a baby anymore, and start messing stuff up.

^^hahaha but you must admit, they have such an amazing personality... :p im in love with oscars to, and always wanted one...

it was either a FH and Red Oscar or FH and GT.. my FH is soooo niiice... i love that little fella! :p
