aro tank mates help

i just got my new 240 gallon, i have a 4-5 inch silver aro, and 3 bichirs in my 60 gallon until my 240 is set up. i was planning on getting a fire eel, but my tank will still be empty. what fish would be compatible with my silver aro, was thinking about 1 florida gar. are there any other fish i could get that wont mess with my aro?

Just a suggestion, but I keep a colony of frontosa with my aro. They like to stay lower in the tank and are very big, docile cichlids. You'll need a neutral ph for them plus aro.

I'd go with some datnoids.

ive seen aros with giant gourami and some cichlid

yeah thats why im going to wait a little to get a gar, let my aro size up so he doesnt get eatin. i dont really like datnoids, is there any other fish i could get?
what about clown loaches

If you were to post in the gar sub forum, the experienced gar keepers recommend not keeping gar with silver arowana. Because it is bad for the gar.

Loaches may work.They are slow growers though.Always a chance if you get small ones the aro may it them.

Gar like to attack silver fish also, so it usually ends badly for one of them. they may be fine for a long long time and then one day something happens. Plus at that size, like someone mentioned, aros are pretty fragile. I would stay away from cichlids and especially if you do decide to get a gar, but it's very ill advised.

as i mentioned my gar and aro were fine...as for the silver fish deal, from my exp not true...i have had my gar with tinfoils, aro, clown knife, balas...as for the chilids mine has been with oscars, jd, severum...i don't advise pacus my pacu tore up my gar last night...it will live though...pacu is now gone to the lfs on trade...catfish are good aswell....also all this is like i said and others said when your aro is bigger...
