You might want to try keeping the lights off for a few days to help him settle in. Once he recognizes you as a source of food, he'll calm down.
I think it is an individual thing. I've kept many aros, none has freaked because I wore something red or held something red/yellow/orange in front of tank.
I don't think thats a good idea. IME higher tank/water level makes a fish less skittish. Lowering water would help lessen the damage from jumping up and hitting it's head but this isn't your case. Your Jar seems to be swimming rapidly back and forth. Just give it some time to adapt. Try dropping the food and back away. Let it take the food.
i think i will keep the water level the same at the moment. i will add a catfish tomorrow to the tank and see hoe he does. thanks again guys for all the help. if he still goes nuts i will lower the water level to 60%
my aro would always go nuts when I wore red also.
just give him time to get to know you and the new environment. small aros are especially skittish.
Tell us hoe he does lol gl man I think he just needs to get used to the surrounding. Do you have a lid? My fish used to freak when I'd open and close the lid because of the sound it made.
