Hahahah, true. All edible things have their role as "prey" basically.Unless so poisonous thats nothing can it eat.I saw on National Georaphic tonight a South American fish market on the banks of the mighty Amazon, and hey were splitting a 3 foot RTC in half.As well as having all kinds of keepable cichlids on the same table, ready to be bought and cooked. We see it as harsh because their not native to our waters and we keep them as pets.Pets are food too in some countries where not everything is prossesed food.If i could only find the link to a video i saw where a Japanese chef pulls a Datnoid out of a tank, takes a fillet out of it and places it back in the tank to which the "exoticness" of this kind of shushi came from the customer eating the fillet of the fish he is watching still very alive, still very swimming.

If we're thinking of the same vid....It wasn't a dat, it was a common SW fish.

i'd never eat an aro... what a wierd conversation :screwy:

I remember that vid, wasnt a dat. But it was very painful to watch. Foreign countries have been eating different types of fw fish for years. Somewhere on mfk was a thread about Fw fish consumption. Botias, CK, snakeheads, and etc can be found in many frozen sections in markets. Dont think I would be able to eat a fw fish.

In my opinion, it all comes down to "why" you are eatting a particular fish.
1. Hungry and because it is your staple food.
2. Just because you were curious
3. Just because you have to means to do it (ex: pay $$$ for an Asian Aro for dinner)
4. [Insert other reason]

As for me - heck no - i can never eat my pet. But nevertheless, I still enjoy seafood and many other types of fish.

i guess arows are not all that common for eating cause they are skinny and stuff. but if and wen my arapaima grows out of my pond. at least i have an alternative way to get rid of him.....mmmmm....soya sauce....
