"They are excellent jumpers; it has been reported that Osteoglossum species have been seen leaping more than 6 feet (almost 2 metres) from the water surface to pick off insects and birds from overhanging branches in South America, hence the nickname "water monkeys". " Arowana page from wikipedia
Liketofish... Are you the kid holding the fish in the avatar... If so, I'll rest my case... If not, try to imagine how much force does an arowana make in order to lift himself up 3 feet above the tank... With such force, it either cracks the guy tank, or splashes most of the water in the tank out... And read what you quote.. They got
...birds from overhanging branches...
not a flying macaw...

Although no one has said it someone probably a thought it. So I'll say it.

He wanted to return the aro and needed a 'reasonable' excuse to persuade you to get rid of this tankbuster. He thinks his several thousand doller bird wound up as food for a 2ft arowana. Complete load of BS. Secondly, he wound have an appropriate sized cage for the macaw and keep it secured at ALL times. He would also have a cover and or hood on top of the tank. He has also, most likely, seriously overfed his arowana to make the excuse more believeable with the buldge in the stomach. Its probably just a bunch of pellets or feeders.

I rest my case about this BS.

maybe I'm in the minority here but I've actually seen my aro try and attack my eclectus(midsize parrot) mid flight.

IDK about a silver taking down a full size macaw but I know my fish tracks my bird while its flying around the room until the bird makes a pass over the tank then BAM! right into the hood right where the bird was, kinda like an interceptor missle or something. thankfully both my fish and bird are still in tact. needless to say I no longer let the bird buzz around the aro tank.

I wouldn't be so quick to call this guys story BS, maybe eating the whole macaw part is BS, but not the fact that an aro can track and attack a bird mid flight.

I need some pigeons to test this out with...

Sounds "fishy" to me, a macaw is a big bird. An aro might be able to grab and drown it...but eat it? No way....

Yeah...I think it would rather be macaw eating arowana. But really, none eatign the other. Each too big.

First of all, why keep a macaw in a room in the house? Last time I heard, they need the "air space" to move around right?

Second, if it was in a room in a house. It was probably a love bird or some bird of smaller scale. In my opinion, a 2 foot arowana would have a hard time downing or even swallowing an 8" parrot.

Yeah right...most aros are freaked by any sudden movements near to the tank. You are saying this aro of yours, that has never eaten a parrot nor would it veiw as a food source, is tracking your bird through glass :duh:and attacks when it is close.:bs: Maybe your bird scared the crap outa the aro and it was just showing normal, skittish aro behavior. :screwy:

Geez excuse me for posting my experience here. Yes, I'm talking about my aro. which is pretty dam aggresive toward anything near his tank not some chicken sh*t skittish aro. And NO my aro has never eaten a bird but it does aggresively track the birds movement thru the glass, maybe its instinctive behaviour, IDK. I've owned a bunch of aros, silver, jar, black, etc. so its safe to say I can tell the difference between running scared, stalking prey, or protecting its territory. This same aro. (I call him The Beast) also trys to attack my dog when it gets too close and also loves attackin me when I change water.

BTW, anyone else ever seen their aro puff its mouth pouch at yah or hear it growling before? Oh wait thats just BS too so nevermind.
