Arowana is terrified of me

It takes time like everyone is saying. Do you have other fish in the tank with him/her ? this can sometimes act as a dither. As the arow grows you will see the changes. I had one like this that got up to 30 inches and ate out of my hand and I could touch with my hand with no problems, but then he would freak out if I was cleaning the tank.
Give it time

It would help if you got a chair and sat near the tank for at least a few minutes each day. He'll quickly realize you're not a threat. Usually.

this is exactaly what i do when i get new fish that are skittish. just sit infront of the tank everytime you are feeding them. should work.

I guess the problem is I havent had time to just sit in front of the tank. I hope he comes around because its such a beautiful fish to watch swim freely. I would hate that whenever guests came over he went and hid.

My arowana is still acting scared and not swimming much. It does not seem to be a health issue. He just seems timid. I have tried sittting in front of the tank. I was wondering If maybe I should stop feeding for a little bit. The reason I say that is because he is even timid at feeding time. If I am around he will not eat. I have to back away from the tank for him to eat. I really am not sure what to do But I think he may be more bold if I stop feeding for a day or two. What do you guys think?

my aro was scared of me for the first 2 or 3 months, but is far from shy now. Yours will find its confidence as it grows. good luck.

Add dithers and he won't be so timid at feeding time. In fact, quite the opposite. For the most part, Aros hate the idea of other fish eating before them.

What do you mean by dithers? I have tinfoil barbs can they act as dithers? My aro has actually gotten more timid since first being in the tank and it seems like it started when I added the tinfoils.

Dithers are intended to be out and about and usually help timid fish feel more comfortable. Tinfoils usually make for good dithers with other species. Silver dollars are doing a nice job with my small xb. A stingray worked really nicely with my chilli in terms of making him more aggressive at feeding time and for my RTG a big endli bichir did the same trick.

How long have the tinfoils been in with him?

only about 5 days... funny thing is he seems more timid now than he did at first. at first he was out and not scared of me and now he is terrified.
