I had a fantail that was calico and then turned a golden white when he got old. He died at the age of 6. He had hemorrhagic septicemia which is gram negative and i was treating him with tetracycline, which is a gram positive medication and i re introduced him to my 55. I had 3 baby koi in the 55. They are now in my pond. His fins were still red when i re introduced him, but we were going on a trip. I did not have enough filtration in the tank, and i ordered an aquatop canister, and that had not came when we left and i was expecting for it to arrive when we got back. It was august. The middle of summer here in salt lake. It is very dry here in utah so we use an evaporative cooler. We were gone for less than a week. I added some of those plaster vacation fish feeders. We left the evaporative cooler on while we were gone. We left the fan on low. It has a float and will automatically refill when running low. We arrived home and my canister had arrived. We went inside and the house was over 90 degrees F. The fish tank was murky and all i could see was fanner floating upside down all bloated and all of his fins had been eaten off. The belt broke in the evaporative cooler. I was devastated. I wanted to leave the hobby. that happened a few years ago. I was so upset because i had had that fish since i was a little kid.Yeah, my fantail started out quad coloured (orange, black, white and red) and is now deep orange with tiny white patches. No black or "red" anywhere. Even now at 4+ yrs old her white is still slowly spreading across her body. One of my babies is starting to developing white on her belly at almost three years old, so that much I knew. Also, thanks for all your help and putting up with my questions.
To the OP, I'll stop junking up your thread now. Sorry about all the goldfish talk.![]()
