Not alot else to say lol, why dont you keep some Ctenolucius hujeta, or some Hepsetus odoe, there cool fish wont grow to big and you could keep others with them.

I wouldn't suggest an odoe for a 75 or 125 for life. They need a little more room and get to 12in pretty easily. The hujeta is a good idea though!

I can personally tell you it won't work, having done just that in my early days of fishkeeping. One of my first fish was a silver aro that ended up somewhere between 24" and 30" (can't remember the exact measurent), whom I kept in my largest tank at the time, a 125 long. Poor thing was horribly cramped and because of this was incredibly skittish and freaked out at the drop of a hat. Eventually ended up battering itself to death on the lid/sides, I presume trying to make it's way to more spacious accommodations.

The aro grew to that size, from 6 inches, in less than 2 years. Only after keeping another one years later in a 220, did I realize the difference in the fishes temperament the extra space brings, and now I'd recommend at least 6'x24" for the first few years. MFK member Flagtail has had his adults lay eggs in a 220, so I'd say that's the minimum (and a bare tank to maximize space as well).

So i just looked up hujeta, and it says they get up to 28 in. Are you sure that would be good suggestion?

I've never seen one beyond about 8"-12". Sorta like Sabretooth barracuda, that grow to 36"+...but you'll never see em over 18", and rarely over 12".

Since most silver aro's i have had grow about 1" per month, and they are usually around 2 inches when i get them (always with yolk sack), they are about 10-11 inches long at 9 months. How is this to big for a 55?
They usually grow faster than that, which means you probably did something wrong , but then you say it would do a great number of years in a 125. You also state that your "15" year old arowana is 28-30" long. How does red devil have a 36" silver that is only 7 years old?

Wow:eek: either you have had many aros or you can't seem to remember what stories you have told.
Do you remember every detail of every fish you have kept over the past 15-20 years.

Since when is making a fish grow as fast as possible healthy?

A good point, powerfeeding is actually detrimental to health, as it increases bone and muscle faster than organs. It's extremely common in the reptile keeping world, especially with big snakes, where it dramatically shortens their lifespan.

LOL the puppy story makes it my day. I bought my silver arowana from Ebay . 4.5 -5 inch. that sucker grew fast in my 60 gallon. about 9 inch in 2 months. Feeding it sticks and stones wont break my bones. Anyways. All i could say is that Silver arowana's WILL grow fast as hell. So get ready to upgrade. I have 2 of em in my 210. BEAUTIFUL fishes. Both 20-22 inch. Went from 60 Gal. to 125 Gal. to 210 Gal. Well worth the experience. My mom ate them. It was well not worth it. Thanks for reading :)

It's not, I never said it is :screwy:. A normally fed aro will grow faster than 1" per month. Even the guy who decides to feed his aro once a week for the first 2-3 months had better growth rates...

Not every small detail, but things as important as tank sizes and previous mistakes is something I will never forget, especially if it was my first. I dont reckon you would mix up having your first aro in a 55 for 9 months or 29 for 6 months and then in a 55 for the next 18 months, which, I have to say, is basically physically impossible, even going by your growth rates 2+6+18=26 (I think?) and 26" I think everyone can agree with me on this, is NOT going to fit in something 12" wide.
