I just find it funny that some fish, like lungfish and eels are commonly kept in tanks much narrower than they are long, and this is acceptable. Silver aros are quite flexible, so i dont see what the big difference is.

eels can "fold/bend/roll up" to fit into small places such as the pvc tubes they are provided with. I do not see how you can compare the flexibility of an aro with that of an eel. As for lung fish, I do not know.

Yeah, aros are much less flexible than an eel. Depends on the lungsfish, SALs are very flexible, the African species are like an aro, and the AUL is less flexible.
The reason you can keep eels and lungs in small(er) tanks is that they aren't constantly active like an aro. Like snakes, you can keep a 5 foot cornsnake in a 24"x12" tank and it'll be perfectly happy....

Never owned a lung myself, however all the eels I own or have owned spend 90% of the days hiding out and not moving. Fail to see how this is a good comparison considering how silver aros are constantly moving through out the tank. Find it hard to believe that anyone who has ever owned a large silver would even make this comparison.
There is alot more to be considered when providing the proper width/depth of a tank, it's not just what it takes for an arowana to "turn around".
