Arowana poop

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Had a silver once, brought it home, acclimated it, released it into the tank just to whatch it go belly up in less then 5 mins. Granted my lfs ships them in so I'm thinking it was used to soft water rather then hard water. Still sucked buying my first aro for $80 at 6in just to have it die right away. I'll eventually get another but that won't be till my 2,000g is built in a few years.
Yeah I'd love to have some snake heads too but sadly they are illegal in the US as well.
Damn that must've sucked. Yes could be various factors as well and juvenile aros are pretty skiddish but apart from that I've had good luck with these. I got my albino aro home when he was barely 5 inches I prefer buying as young as possible that way it's easier to groom them the way you want. Why don't you try keeping peacock bass’ or do you? I’ve kept mono and will get a couple Kelberis and call it a day haha.

Closest I've gotten to pbass was the native large mouth bass around here. I used to catch them around 3in long and raise em up till they were 10in and release them back to where I caught em from and just start over again. Still fed them all live food diets so they wouldn't starve in the wild. One of my favorite predator fish were yellow perch, they got upto around 10-12in Max in the wild but it was their hunting tactics that I loved. Ever whatch wolves hunt? That's pretty much how perch hunt, one lies in wait, hiding, while the others chase the bait fish towards the one in hiding and when the bait fish least expects it, BAM!, it's struck from the side by the one hiding and everyone else smacks the rest of the fish while they panic. It's so fun to whatch how they carefully plan out their hunts and execute them. Not certain if they can be shipped out of the states tho but if they can ya ought to get a handful. I'll attach a pic I pulled from Google. Honestly they are nice looking small predators and get great spawning colors. Once they get past 6in they start growing a slight hump on their back and get a bit of a gut like a bass will.

I've heard of yellow perch but didn't know the hunting thing to them sounds really cool. You need to keep peacocks you'll love how they eat and hunt food. I'm really considering getting a freshwater puffer but I'm not sure how well he'll do in a comm tank with aros, peacocks and predators like that.

I would imagine pbass to eat allot like the large mouth we used to have. Dance at the surface and smack em as the minnows drop in. Had one that had a habit of biting the cat as he tried to drink from the top of the tank.
Hmm never thought of having a puffer in a tank with those before. No clue if any of them would get big enough to cohabitate together with them.
