Arowana tail split

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hmmm I don't think its cotton like, more like glue I guess. Anyway I think I'm gonna put aquarium salt to help him heal and calm him down, any idea how much I should put?

You notice what I described on the Arowana?
If not just add 1 tlb spoon to every 10 gallons.

I'm not 100% sure but I assume cotton meaning like fuzzy looking right? The one I observe is more glue like, viscous and its peeling off my arowana the fist few minute it reenters the tank. Fist time using aquarium salt, do I mix it with water or just straight put it into the tank?

You don't have to mix it.

Ok noted, what are the signs of internal damage? Can internal damage heal? Do I need to add salt or medication just in case? It's only been 2 days since he's been in my care so I don't really know his usual behavior, currently he's back to being skittish when anyone approach the tank. Feeding wise can I continue with normal feedings or do I need to starve him to heal faster? Is it a good sign if he's eating normally?

If he’s eating fine that is a good sign. No need to starve him.
Signs of internal injury will vary depending on what is actually injured. You will need to monitor/observe your fish. Any internal organs could potentially be at risk after such ordeal. Swim bladders, kidneys, stomach, or even head and spine. Some general signs to watch for will be bruising, swelling, unusual behavior, dulled appearance, labored swimming/ breathing, un responsive behavior.
If your fish is currently not showing any negative signs besides the split tail fin, you likely won't have to deal with other problems. Sometimes it just helps to be mindful of the potential injuries that can occur to prevent it from happening again.

He refuses to eat during yesterday's meal time, other than that and the damage on the tail he seem perfectly fine. I added aquarium salt just in case. He actively avoids my hand but I notice he's less skittish. Is that a good or bad thing?
