House, go bare. Going bare will make you feel good about it but yet it feels so wrong at the same time.:D This is a personal preference and I don't judge. Add a couple of nice driftwood in there and you got a nice combo.

I agree! It looks like a LFS set up. I'm partial to the natural look, of course, I don't want a mud bottom but sand seems okay to me and it's cheap.

Too each his/her own, I guess........

I'm suprised no one brought up tiles. If bare/painted bottom is is too plain, but you hate maintaining sand/gravel, setting tiles on the bottom of the tank is a great alternative. It'll still look good (customize your own pattern) and you'll have the ease of cleaning.
 
i'd imagine you'd have to seal the tiles to the bottom to make sure no crap get stuck under it. wouldn't the paints and glaze on tiles leach chemicals into the water?
