Make sure you get a big retic lmfaoo, my old aro literally ate my retic in front of me.

Wow!

Depending on the aro, it may do fine in that setup. I agree that the FH might terrorize the whole group. It would be very risky...Though I have tried some risky set-ups and have been very successful. Right now, my aro is in a large tank with 3 Datnoids, 2 ID sharks, 2 rays, two plecos, and a large tiretrack eel with no problems whatsoever. My aro is also the largest fish in that tank at 30in. I've also done arowanas with africans like frontosas.

You might just need to try whatever it is that you like based on whatever you're willing to risk. If there's a setup you think you'll like, just go for it and have a backup plan in case it doesn't work out. Just my opinion.

the flowerhorn was a maybe ... I could always swap out a different cichlid for one... I have never had one and am not to familiar with their temperment.. but if you all say they are too aggressive.. I will cross that one off my list... ... the Datnoid is a good idea too.. I have not even thought of that fish... so maybe the Arowans, an oscar, the electric blue dempsey & a datnoid (plus some dithers and clown loaches)

Also... someone on another board mentioned a flagtail prochilodus!!! .. I never even heard of this one and looked him up.. BEAUTIFUL!!! what can you tell me about this fish in this tank???

If it isn't a larger one, it will likely become an expensive meal for the aro. They clean algae really well...even off of fake plants!(I have two of these as well but not in the tank with the aro as either the dats, aros, or rays may mistake them for crappie minnos. I am grwoing them out in a smaller tank for now) Finding a larger one may prove to be somewhat of a challenge. But they are out there as someone on MFK just sold a 10incher for $200.

there is a LFS that is desperately trying to get rid of a 14" one.. but that will just eat all my other fish till they grew out.. lol... as far as the Datnoids... every one I have talked to (been to 4 LFS today) said that they are brackish water fish and need salt in the tank.. and that wont go well with the Aro... how can you guys be keeping these two fish together???

ARE YOU GUYS SERIOUS!!! the best combo with an aro is but of course CICHLA!!! here is a photo of my Black Aro and Cichla Mono an they have been together for years!!! AND NOT A PROBLEM!!! im also about to add 2 temensis in there as well! CICHLA + AROWANA =:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2 to me thats the ulitmate 1,2 punch for a MFKer!!!:D

cichla... are we talking peacock bass??? I already bought the blue Jack Dempsey and the arowana... guy at LFS said a peacock would work great as well... would there be a problem with him and my dempsey???

Ordered a 1-2 inch Flagtail Perchilodus today from my LFS... should be coming in sometime next week :) .. still have one more fish to get... I was thinking something red would look nice.. .. but don't think I can bring myself to getting a parrot... specially with the aro and its deformed mouth... not really sure what I should get...would love a peacock as suggested before... but Im not sure about its size and aggression with the dempsey most of all... the question is... WHAT FISH.. and red ones you can think of?... more suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

List is as follows:
1 Silver Arowana
1 Electric Blue Dempsey
1 Flagtail Perchilodus
6 Clown Loaches
5 Giant Danios (aro lunch eventualy)
2 Common Plecos
1 Common Lobster
1 ?????????
