there is a LFS that is desperately trying to get rid of a 14" one.. but that will just eat all my other fish till they grew out.. lol... as far as the Datnoids... every one I have talked to (been to 4 LFS today) said that they are brackish water fish and need salt in the tank.. and that wont go well with the Aro... how can you guys be keeping these two fish together???

There are several types of datnoids. Your LFS is probably talking about an American Tigerfish aka AT aka Silver Dat, which is brackish. The datnoids I'm referring to are Indo Dats, New Guinea Dats, Thin Bar dats, or Widebar dats etc...all freshwater. I'm not into cichla so I can't help there.

That's a very cool tank. Nice set-up it reminds me of Super Mario Bros. Looking for some Tankmates? how about Datnoids? Theyhave awesome personality and it will go well with your Aro.

Well the EBJD is not a hearty fish, and very slow growing. It may not do well or become lunch. Good luck you might get lucky.

how bout a lil rtc there so cute lol or a fire eel
LOL, cute lil rtc wont be so lil after a few months...

I worry also about the blue jack, might be best to try to add a larger ebjd. The problem is that the aro of course grows quickly, as well as the oscar which you mentioned as a possibility...and the ebjd and clown loaches you're looking at are slow growers. Same with dats and prochilodus. Not saying it won't work, and adults of all of those would probably do fine, but if they don't grow quick enough they might end up lunch.

Do you maybe have a different tank that you could grow some of them out in?

Re: red fish, I can't think of an obvious fit. There are fish with red on them that would work great in there though (school of red hooks, redtail chalceus)...or maybe a rotkeil severum in place of the fh.

Also agreed with MsPoly, some endlis would be cool. Maybe a lima shovelnose if you like cats.

dats, you can't have a tank without them! they are persons not fish.. :D
