So we go from our fire eel burning himself (he's doing awesome by the way) to our silver Arowana swimming odd. Overnight, he is now rapidly swimming back and forth with his head higher then his body at a 30 degree angle. He's been randomly having little mini thrash fests but we can't catch if he's grabbing a piece of left over food or what. It almost seems like he's having bouancy problems but instead of his back end (where the bladder would be where air in the bladder could be the answer) it's vice versa. The only other thing we can think of is that we just introduced a 5 inch red-bellied Pacu into our tank. Anyone see this before and can possibly help?

Details: a little over a foot long silver arowana in a 150 gallon tank.

UPDATE:
He is now thrashing around almost uncontrollably. He keeps doing it randomly. He's never done this before. It's almost like he's having mini seizures. We're flabbergasted! Any suggestions?!

My apologies. I should specify. It was feeding time and we weren't sure if he was eating. Hence leaving the food in a bit longer for him :)

We have a 150 gallon tank. We tested our tank to find our ammonia a tiny bit high but other then that, it's fine. I'm not sure what else you'd like to know so ask away!

More info: It seems like our new Pacu friend likes to follow our fish around. Absolutely nothing agressive but the Arowana seems to be his favorite to tag along with. We also JUST noticed there's a bit of ich on our fire eel which I'm assuming is from stress. Although I'm not expert, I don't know if that would cause our Arowana to swim at an angle, have seizures and swim rapidly.

noel my silver did the same thing today.i just did a 75% water change and he was fine :)

Not sure that you can do anything for the aro except fix the two problems within your tank that you've stated.

Ammonia burns the gills of fish. Ich generally develops in fish that are stressed. You need to get your tank healthy.

x2, up your waterchanges, get rid of that ammonia. Is your tank cycled?

We did a 30% water change last night and it brought down the ammonia to .5. Then we tried adding some salt. Nothing really changed. He's just chilling at the bottom. Not sideways. It looks like he's trying to catch his breath almost. He's still doing the spasm thing but we've noticed it looks like he's trying to get air or something. Weird. We're currently in the middle of a 75% water change + some PimaFix/Melafix combo and hope all goes well. Wish us luck!
