sure they are

alot of the fish and insects/small animals they consume in the wild regularly consume/ have plant matter in the gut. this is digested along with the rest of the animal.

So meaning its ok to feed plant matter to aros?

It wont do any harm. Make sure your plecos are getting enough though and not being outcompeted!

my plecos never get fed. i always thought of them as garbage disposals. they eat left over food/pellets and algea. i never even throw in food specifically meant for them.

imma try to feed my guys some fruits today lol. small pieces tho jus to see if they like it.

the apple may be to acid for the aros gut

umm i would at least peel the apple first....

digestion might be an issue.

im just curious to why you think this. in the wild, arowanas eat everything from small birds (with beeks, bones, feathers, nails on their feet) and every kind of kruncy bug... they eat everything possible to survive. i fed mine mice which has teeth, bones, hair. arowans chew, then swallow. they use the "boney tongue" which is why they are called boney tongue fish.

my thoughts were that an aros captive breed and raised might not used to such food. apples might also have pesticides.

i also tend to not compare my fish to fish in the wild since their envrmnts are so much different.

just my .02
