animals that don't identify with smell tend to identify with color. that's why if you do to the zoo wearing the same color the staff wears the animals will respond to you. well not to you, the shirt. they didnt recodnise the red coming towards them and when fish dont recodnise something they immediately assume its a predator and go into survival mode, its no big deal theyll get used to recodnising red as the color of food after you wear it for a while

dont think so.
then woudnt they get really scared as well if i wear a yellow t shirt.
and i never wear yellow.
but ive never seen em get scared by a big yellow vangard sheet i used one time for a project.
its always only red.
sometimes black.

Deep water fish still see color. It's just that at depth there isn't enough light for most colors to be visible.

my pike cichlid goes nucking futs when i got bye with anything red on. if theres anything red in the room he even gets cautious. not so much with my juv. silvers, but deffinately with the larger one.

Ok so it was Christmas, and I got this RED polo shirt.
So I'm wearing it when I get close to the tank for feeding.

My 3 Aros and all their tankmates go bizerk!...I mean they acted like they were hit with lightning bolt!...They couldn't have gotten any more spooked even if they were on a hook and line...

Anybody else have any experiences like this?...

What is it with the color red that fishes HATE so much??

They think it's a full grown Arapaima coming to eat them! (That or Santa Claus!)

i have to agree with the colour red. my sister likes to walk around with a bright red blanket wrapped around her and when she walks by the aro tank they go crazy. i tell her to not walk by with the blanket but she still does. whats worst is once they start going crazy she just stands there in front of the tank watching them go crazy so they dont stop until i physically move her away.
