240x97x62cm. That was my old set up, new one will be bigger again with the intention of housing my black arowana for life.

Funny how all the "haters" are the ones with experience keeping big fish and the people disagreeing are the ones trying to justify themselves keeping fish in inadequately sized tanks. 2' wide simply isn't enough for a fish that can grow to 3'+, regardless of how flexible they are.

Thank you all for the response's.
I'm just putting the feelers out to find more about owning an arrowana I haven't bought nothing yet just doing my homework before I spend any money, but just want to get everything right. Thank you for the advice on tank size and now stand corrected, I am looking at one ARO, two bichir's two severum's and a flowerhorn what do you think in 8FT by 3ft by 3ft tank but I still need some more advice on filtration it looks like sump is the way to go but know nothing about them any advice!!!

Filtration is as much of a matter of preference as anything. Your going to be looking at large canisters or a sump with that size tank. Personally I use two canisters and a sump on my 450g. Having multiple redundent filters is good insurance in case one fails. A member here T1Karmann has built his own huge tank and has a quite impressive filtration system, you may want to look him up as he is over on your side of the pond and can better give you an idea of what products are available to you.

Either way lots of research will do you good there are lots of big tanks with varying types of filters/filtration. Find what works best for you is as important as it being effective running your tank. Good luck, the link below is to TIK's profile, you could PM him or search his threads. I'm sure he'll eventually chimed in here also. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/member.php?3425-T1KARMANN

That stock sounds a little light IMO, but I'd rather see that than an enormous wish-list of fish! Are you going glass, acrylic or DIY? Going from 2' to 3' width isn't too big a deal, but increasing the height from 2' to 3' will add significantly to the cost, especially with glass as you'd be looking at going from [probably] 12mm to 19mm. I'm sure the fish would love the extra height but it is nowhere as important as the extra width especially as you're not planning on a whole heap of mid-level swimmers.

For the filtration of a tank that size. my preference would be for a large sump. It would be possible to use several large canisters but IMO the cost and difficulty of maintenance doesn't make them a very good option. The only other possibility would be an Ultima-style bead or glass filter, but as I said earlier I'm not sure what is available in the UK. There are many ways you could go about building the sump but the shape and size will depend on how much room you have and what you want to use for filter media. They can be very simple with a couple of filter socks and some bags of noodles/matrix media sitting in there, or as complicated as you like with all sorts of different options for mechanical, biological, chemical and plant filtration. Best thing to do would be to look thru the DIY filters forum and see how others have done things and figure out how best to set it up to suit your application.

ps. what kind of aro are you looking at getting?

I'm looking at a single silver or black ARO as the main fish for the tank.

I am in two minds now, whether to go 2ft or 3ft tall ill just have to check the funds when ready.

I will also have to do alot of research on the filtration on here and there is alot here.

Thank you for your help as this my first time on any forum and dont know how to use it properly but getting there.

Heres my group of 5 in their 650 (9'x4') :) there pleasent as punch...they never freak out and hit the lid. They were grown out in smaller tanks and became very restless and jumpy in a 2ft. Depth. I believe they are good for life now but bigger is always better. I have a female that laid eggs this year so i grouped them all together in hopes of breeding. Good luck with your build...aros are a good choice :) very peaceful and amazing to watch.

As for filtration the tank pictured has 3 fx5's and 2 overhead sumps. It also has pothos growing outta my bio towers to aid in filtration. Any filters you can find will work...i have 26 tanks running rite now with every different filter on the market and nothing is full proof or better than the other. No matter what equipment i try im still waterchanging once a week...more filters the better is a good rule of thumb. I like sump/canister/h.o.b./sponge filter combos. Plants also help alot to remove nitrates
