artificial driftwood replica

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think if you got the "perfect" piece of drift and made a mold of it, and the casting material was tinted perfectly, then it would be a great product. It's not impossible to pull off. I think you're talking about the next step up from the "crap" we see on the market now. If that's the case, then I think you're on to something. Keep us posted!!!

we're already have at least 2 models, i will post it later, we're still in heated argument of what material it will be. our first choice would be resin, but any suggestions are welcome. and yes, we will made it possible for aquarium plant to attach on it.
since we're still in the middle of production, any suggestion are greatly welcome since you can make a difference in our finished product.

regards,

i don't mind having the water tinted (that's what water changes are for) but how does it rank up in terms of cost. the stuff out here is nice but damn is it exspnsive!

I think you have a great idea! Most of the artificial pieces available now are very small and look unbelievably "fake" I would love to be able to find a nice "natural" piece of artificial driftwood. Just one nice centerpiece for my tank. I still love real driftwood, and have, and will continue having, smaller pieces in my tank.

There is a LFS by me that has the most beautiful Amazon display tank and they have a huge tree stump with very large, long roots.....my husband and I were in total awwwwhhh. It inspired us to start a quest to find a very similar piece (on a smaller scale) to put into our 300gal....

I'm very anxious to see your designs....

Dear all,
These would be the models for the product we were discussing these past weeks, any comments are welcome !!!

Cool. I think the best thing to do would be to do a mass produced HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) Injection molding run. The molds are expensive, but the machines that run the molds can produce thousands per hour. You could do a run in the millions for relatively low costs. Polyethylene has come a long way, and there are a wide variety of colors available. And as for toxicity, HDPE is what milk jugs are made of. Look on the bottom of a milk jug and you'll see HDPE and usually a recycling symbol.

My brother in law works at a company here in Pittsburgh that produces Polypropylene containers. There is a company that shares the building that will do custom molds and you can rent the factory to run your products http://www.cccllc.com/ Of course, these costs are in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, but when you're talking about producing millions of pieces, it works out to a few bucks for each piece.

whay get a replica? real driftwood is gorgeous.

For 50dollars i can order some 5-6 large pieces African root that no one on the face of earth will have a replica of, its the sheer fact that each piece is different that makes natural driftwood the best choice, The tinted water can be taken care of.

Hell for free i can go to any lake or stream and go diving or searching the shore for some even more awsome pieces, natural driftwood is awsome!!

The only time i used fake driftwood was for my Green spotted puffer tank because it is high end brackish and i dont feel like having rotting wood.
