After reading gshocks post I did research and find the articles your are listing here, i just didnt know what to search for prior to that.

My response to you was merely to point out that your initial post had absolutely no value and i do hope that your 7000 other posts are a little more worth while that that one. If you would have simply referred to these articles originally i wouldnt have been so sarcastic with you.

ok, lets say you apply and get approved for a permit. how would you buy an asian aro legally? cant import them into the US regardless

if you review the threads listed above from oddball you would see how one would go about importing one. The information he provided is very informative, unfortunately its discouraging as well.

If it was possible it would have already been done. There also would have been at least one mfker on here with one. There isn't. There is a post on this same topic every single day. People get fed up seeing the same answer every day when you can just google and see the info for yourself. If you move to cali you can try to get them illegally, people get busted there quite often.

Ok clearly I'm walking into a small argument here but I can put my over here stance on IME and what I've read on here over the years.

The US has a huge stance on the keeping of illegal fish, I'm fuzzy on this but I remember a snakehead that was in a private home that was subject to the death penalty even though it was purchased before the ban came in and technically exempt.

So I'm guessing that if the fish is on a banned species under cites in the US you've got no chance of ever getting a permit. Over here you can own them but you can buy them under conditions, you need to have the cites cert and the microchip certs to say its been captive bred even then it's going to cost you about 2k for a good one.

I wish you luck and I hope that someone more informed can give you the proper legal stance but this site has a policy of not promoting illegal fish keeping, you have not done and have gone about your inquiry in the right way so I wish you luck on this.

I'm not an expert on UK or US law but from what I've read your chances are nil.

The OP isn't asking how to get one illegally. I'm sure he would already have one if that was the case. And I also question your assertion that because no one pipes up on MFK as saying they've done it, that that means it hasn't been done or can't be done. I'm not sure I would want to talk about such a thing publicly, personally.

The original question is a good one, imo. Has anyone even tried to acquire the permits?

I have spoke to many Canadian Asian Arowana importers and they let me know unless i own my own zoo, or research university it was not going to be possible by any means. I have also talked texas fish and game etc... I don't know why you jumped at me... i was just explaining why everyone is always so short on this topic....

Don't you think if there was a way, some one would be parading everywhere they went about their badass fish? I know I would...

I "jumped" because you told him to move to cali so he could get one illegally. He's not asking to get one illegally, and a statement advising another member to do something illegal is an infractable statement.

There are many members here with very enviable fish in their collection and they do not brag about them whatsoever. It draws too much attention.

The point is being curious about the process and seeing if it's possible to do this legally.
