Asian Arowana are illegal in USA but, ...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Because of how popular these fish are they where almost extinct in the wild. They are on the endangered species act. This was of course about 20 years ago and now their numbers are a lot better in the wild. There are laws in these countries to protect the wild ones from being caught and sold. Only captive bred fish are allowed to be sold and they must be microchipped as proof of being captive bred.

Ok thanks
Is it not possible for you to get chipped ones or are they still banned.

It doesn't matter if they are chipped or not in the USA they are illegal. Other countries allow the chipped ones to be sold and imported to their country but not the USA and a few other places.

There is a lot of talk about the possibility of the trade in USA becoming possible. Trump and his team before the end of the year are going to remove some of the old dated endangered species act and add some new ones too it.

Good on you guys! Hope it's allowed soon

We have them here, MariaS MariaS has a great red aro

Fingers crossed I hope so. When I first got into the hobby I assumed I could get an Asian Arowana and was so disappointed finding out I can't. For now I have filled that void in my hobby with rays and other fish but I will never feel completed without that Arowana.

Can't house or afford one, I really want an inscriptus someday

I have found shops who sell them in NYC. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw one in the basement of a shop. Anyone else in NYC experience the same thing

So what kind of Asian did you see in the basement? Some people's mistaken a jardini or a leichartdi aro for a Asian aro.

Do you spend a boatload of money with that shop to be allow to go down to the private basement to see these arowana or are they the most dumbest criminals just to let anyone go down to check the aros out and jeopardize being fined, and face jail time or being blast on MFK, That is some trust.

I wish to have gotten a chance to see one like you claim you did must be nice to see one in person.
