Thanks everyone for the advice. I don't disagree with you. I respect the law and I will wait till they become legal in the USA. I was just really excited to see one in person and decided to share it with you all.
they are impressive animals that's for sure, especially when they are larger specimens

I have seen these aros as well as gars and rays for sale in lfs. It has been a long while though. When I first read gars are illegal in California I was shocked as I saw them in almost every store I went to at the time. The bummer is, if you're uninformed you could be making a big mistake. Hardly see any of these fish anymore but since finding MFK I don't spend as much time in lfs either.

The price I was given at one shop was 3500 for a red Asian Arowana and the gold cross back was 6000. They where all close to 10 inches maybe a foot

gold much more expensive than red? Is it a RTG or 1.5 red rather than a real red

I smile in pity :p

I see a few blacklisted fish at some shops here too
That's how I got my channelcat. In NY they are game fish and cannot be sold unless farmed etc., but my lfs sold me one when I was 10. When I went back, to complain that he ate most of my fish, the guy at the lfs denied ever having sold him to me. Don't get me wrong "Caddy" was my 2nd favorite fish of all time (named him that because he had sleek lines like the '59 Cadillac my father had before he got married), but that was wrong, at least for a given definition of wrong.
Anyway, has anyone ever seen a goldfish for sale with legally required G-fish label warning its buyer not to dump it into a stream or lake?
