jesus dude, you have balls. What if it doesn't grow back!?.... I don't think it was that big of a deal to cut it off either. It didn't end up looking that bad though after the cut. I hope you know what your doing!!!

very nice arowana!!

guess your already planning to medicate with salt and bump temp for him. Also feed him a little extra.

You removed the tail because of some damage to the tail?

Good thing that the aro's head wasn't damaged.

Dang that's some crazy stuff. Best of luck with the fish.

Thank you. The tail will grow back, its just a matter of time. 2-3 months and it will look like it never happened.

Yes, the tail was damaged, in such a way that it would not heal correctly. The ray that was growing back, was growing back on its own, not connected to the rest of the rays. This was also starting to rub and cause irritation on his dorsal fin.

This is a common practice in asian arowana keeping for the most part believe it or not.

This was done for aesthetics of course, but the fish was no longer swimming correcty as well..... this will solve both issues.

The Tail will grow back beautifully and normal. Dont worry about what some people comment on here cause you did the same thing i did to my RTG and my RTG's tail is almost fully grown back after a month but still has some more growing to do.

Good job!

I honestly don't have a problem with operating on a fishes tail.

I had to take one of my shadow bass out and cut his tail (though not to that extent) due to a severely embedded fluke. It was starting to cause infection and it definitely caused him all kinds of irritation.

The only problem I have with your vid is:

Not sure if he was adequately anaesthetized due to his behavior at the end (of course I have never used clove oil for that. What I did to my shadow bass took all of a few seconds with very sharp knife so I didn't put him under). And I could see how you would worry about problems with using too much.

And a bigger concern for me would be putting him into a tank with other fish after cutting on his tail, due to infection risk. Though if you have a water exchange system I could see this not really being a problem. Did you add anything to the tank to prevent such a thing from occuring?
