Like most aggressive fish...once it gets comfortable (about a week or two).

Man. Didn't realise how fast they are. She's the boss of her own pile of stones already chasing anything away. In terms of speed I thought my Pictus were fast but the ARTC certainly matches them.
Can anybody suggest the cheapest way to feed these fish. I have a spare tank used as a hospital/quarantine area so I am gonna throw some livebearers in and try to cultivate an endless supply of food.
Can anybody suggest a company that supplies cheap feeders in the UK until this project is up and running?

ttt

This is not the cheapest way to feed an ARTC the photo is/was a gold Severum. Note the abscence of head and tail. This fish has got to go now.

Holly crap!! That's insane!!

Sorry for the loss man, that severum looked nice.

I know you said you were getting rid of him, but if you do keep him (to answer your question) I've found the best/cheapest way to feed my larger cats is with pollock/tillapia fillets and jumbo shrimp.

Its difficult to get Feeders in the UK as its not generally accepted. You have to basically buy normal shop stock.

An alternative is frozen foods, Mussell, Sprats. ARTC's are not difficult to convert to non live foods.

I fed mine bloodworms when very little, and feeders(you say they're hard to get...) I'd go with krill, if it will accept it, or small pieces of chicken. Mine at 12-13" is eating well on Hikari Massivore Delite. Earthworms go down well. I've never had terrible aggression problems yet, but he had tank mates from the beginning.

As stated, all individual's have their own temperament, but I most commonly hear them getting bad at the 8-10" mark. Again, mine hasn't gone ape yet, but it could come any day. He did eat some 4-5" Scombs (sabertooth tetra's) he must have really liked them, since he ate 3, doh!

I love the ARTC tho, and I couldn't go without.

Well I've had to put the ARTC in it's own tank. She got the better of a 4.5" Jack Dempsey last night. The JD is hanging in there with a good portion of dorsal and a few scales missing. I was upset enough at losing the Severum and there was no way it was getting my Green Terror. I guess you live and learn.
The ARTC is going to have to be shipped out cos the only spare tank is a 20 gallon and it aint gonna be happy in there for too long.
So I guess I can answer my original post "how long will it take to get evil?", the answer being 4 days.
Good luck to all you ARTC owners that have no compatability problems, I must have just got the worlds most aggressive, most aggressive freshwater fish.
