Asterophysus batrachus - Gulper Cats!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yes gulpers can eat a new born ray when theyre just large enough.
but many gulpers get so tamed theyd rather just sit and wait for food rather than waste energy swimming around catching prey.
but seeing as how a baby ray would be a nice big meal,a gulper might decide to eat it.

Love my gulpers they fed the very first day from my hand only hours after their arrival. I open the tank cover now and they immediately surface waitin for food. Even as I clean the tank they follow my hand around the tank. I plan on gettin more soon. They do hunt for themselves though the feeders I put in there disappear every night.

I got my 3 gulpers yesterday.. They don't' seem interested in food at all.

Any of you know anyway to jump start feeding? or should i just wait it out and see... Im trying to skip live food.

Very nice!!

I would just wait a couple of days. I actually tried the second day after I got them. At first they would just spit the shrimp out, but I left a couple of jumbo shrimp in there and when I went to bed they were both gone.

I have one gulper that eats better than the other. My larger gulper is the one that ate the fish that were in the tank, but the smaller gulper is the one that hand feeds better. :screwy:

I'm not feeding anymore live, so the big guy is going to have to give in soon. :D

:iagree: a large gulper would def be able to eat a ray its just wether it would want to. mine wont chase or "hunt" anything it just waits to be hand fed. ive seen guppies swimming right infront of its mouth and it just ignores them so you could be ok but is it worth the risk????

That's the number one question in my book..."is it worth the risk?. Personally I say no...just knowing that they have the ability to eat a fish as large as them (sometimes larger) was enough for me to set up a species tank.
