Extremely hard to find. Been looking for a small one for a looong time.

Get slightly shorter than A. occelatus, however are thicker bodied. Also dorsal fin coloration differs. Cool fish.

I owned a pair 4 years back.....BOth were a good foot.....Sold to me as "True" Tiger Oscars....

Anyone know anything about these fish? Or own or have owned any?

Here is a link to pictures.

They're hard to find.

Those pictures just happen to be mine so here's a little info on that one.

It orginally belonged to Wayne Leibel and was at least thought to be one of the last crassipinnis in the U.S.
(That people agreed about the ID on,anyway).

It was orginally collected in Bolovia.

Wayne had it staying at Jeff Rapps place.
After asking Jeff over and over :D about crassipinnis for a long time he talked to Wayne (so did I) and I bought the fish in hope of spawning it.

As far as them coming in (I haven't had time to ask Jeff in a while - so maybe it's changed) they don't.

ALL of the fish I've seen (same with everyone else I've talked to) imported reciently or offered as crassipinnis in the U.S. are NOT. They are usually ocellatus and/or sometimes orbicularis.

A while back I checked with everyone that I could find or that someone suggested and bought several fish "thought to be crassipinnis" - NONE were.

The last possable source I was pointed to was Oliver at below water.
His words on them are "I do not import wild oscars anymore because there is not enough market."

Looking hard for over 8 years I found 3 total - 0 in the last 4 years, since I got the one pictured from Jeff and Wayne

Search google and you'll find all kinds of posts on forums and sites by me looking for them, even offering ,(what I now consider) crazy amounts of money for them :screwy:

So good luck to anyone looking for them, they're not easy to find.

Maybe an oddball slips in with ocellatus if they're collected in the right location otherwise it doesn't seem like they come in anymore :(

wild oscars sometimes come in to the uk aswild tiger oscars i had 4 a couple of years ago that i grew frome 4 to 12 inches then lost to heater malfunction i picked up 4 more last week at lfs again marked as wild tiger oscars a bout 3inches long these are crassipinnis they are more aggressive than normal oscars they also grow large about 16 inches but much taller in the body and much thicker when i can work out who to post pics i will
