I'm not a fan of poison, bcuz the wrong animal could get it. but have no prob killing the right pests.

Agreed which is partly why I never went the hot dog route.Too many neighbors around here allow their cats to roam outside.

Scumbags. I'm by no means big on legal matters but I would tell him to get a group of people who were vandalized and make an effort to find any possible witnesses to pin down the kids who did it. I understand that everyone here would blow up because it's a fish issue as well but letting kids get away with stuff like this just reinforces the thought that they'll get away with vandalism and who knows what else in the future. If they get caught or not they should at the least deal with a whooping from their parents. Being a punk at home is one thing but messing with other people's belongings is a whole other story. Sorry to your friend, you can't replace the loss of these fish but hopefully he can find some form of compensation.

My deepest condolences to your friend, Wolf96. Heads would literally roll if I found my koi dead and could trace it. Just reading this makes my blood pressure rise. I actually had what I thought was a close call with something like this. One day when I was sitting out at my pond, I found a knife that I didn't put there. Just the thought that someone strange had come close to my pond with something like a knife made my blood boil. Luckily, I found out it was a friend's who had dropped it the weekend before when he was helping me look for my lost dog.

I hope this doesn't discourage him from the hobby. Do keep us updated if any legal action comes from this.

Track the pieces of garbage down and have someone put a cap in their knees. Get them now before they do something to someones parent or child.

-Update-
I talked to my friend and the good news is that his big Ochiba Koi has almost made a full recovery! He lost 9 fish in all (8 Koi & 1 Golden Mahseer). He said that the amazing thing is he did not lose one of his goldfish (a mixture of Comets, Shubunkins & Commons), they must be tough fish!
He has alerted the neighbors to keep their eyes out. The only lead they have so far is that an elderly neighbor that lives a couple blocks away saw a group of teens smash a car window that sat in someones driveway. She reported that to the police and the investigation is underway. I sure hope that they catch whoever is responsible for all this!

Glad to hear at least the ochiba made it through! I don't really have an explanation as to why the koi got hit but not the goldfish other than goldfish are tough little buggers. I hope those snotty kids can be caught.
