At what point can you call a person advanced fishkeeper?

So what is the point youve reached? How can you say that youre experienced/advanced/knowledgeable in regards to keeping fish ?

I suppose I'm really more sassy than experienced. ;-)

I definetly agree with one statement: The more you learn, the more you realize how little you know!

I'd say the measure of an expert is the amount of time spent researching, learning, and gaining in depth understanding of the chemistry and the animals. How long someone has kept fish doesn't necessarily mean a thing. Working at PetCo I spoke with a number of people who claimed to have kept fish their whole lives, yet were unfamiliar with what a "nitrogen cycle" is....yikes.

Agree on this, Specially on the part where the more you learn, the more it is you realize that you have MUCH more to learn. Props to the humble experienced/advanced fishkeeper who recognizes this fact.

However, doesnt experience (i.e years spent taking care of fish)
count for anything?? Or is it overrated?

Well, yeah it counts...but not always. I was just saying I've meet some people who I don't know how they managed to learn so little in some many years.

But I guess that applies to a lot of things, there are plenty of people who are very proud of something they have been doing the wrong way for years and refuse to listen to advice. I think there's a word for it...oh yeah...stupidity
