ATF/Dorado/Goonch/Datnoid PICS!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for the kind words everyone .... like I said before, play with matches and your bound to get burned!

Chicx, it is going to be tough ... I've got them in the 220 now, and hopefully they'll do better in there this time around with the sand substrate ... tank is totally wide open too now, with seperate water circulators on the bottom blowing bubbles so hopefully they'll each choose 1 to minimize fighting ... the tank is 2 feet wide and since there rather stagnant when not feeding I think I can get away with them in there for a while ... is it perfect, def not, but as long as their doing good I'll leave it be .... if I start having issues, the big one will have to go and I'll hang onto the smaller one, but I really dont want to think about this! Its a last resort .... hopefully they can survive a year in there, then everyone downstairs will be in the 18-24 inch range and I'll try it again .... only time will tell ... damn fish! Lol!

Sorry to hear about the GATF. This thread is definitley helping me in making a decision on whether to add a goonch to my tank or not. At this point I don't think it would be a wise decision for me to add a goonch as it looks as though they are living up to their name THE DEVIL CATFISH!

Seriously! I'm glad mine is a 'dwarf'.

Though the more I research that, I'm thinking that Matt is right and dwarves aren't really dwarvish...

Sorry for your loss Alix..... That's a very impressive Gatf. Had no idea your monsters were that big. Great work!!

There's not a whole lot of fish out there that I wouldn't trust with rays...... Goonch would be one of the very few.

Maybe this is a silver lining? Use the funds from the big goonch to fund what that tank has always been missing........ A wolf. ;)

It's too bad you're so far away, I'd gladly put a flat fish in your tank for that beast!!!!

Kudos for trying, and taking one for the team. I think we can all take something away from this.

Haha, thanks DB ... believe me I've taken many trips to Sharkaquarium and have been so close to taking home that aimira he's had there, but I had a mala, and had to give him away since after 6 months he was getting a little too fiesty .... and I agree it could be a blessing in disguise as far as goonchy taking out a more important fish, though I dont want to belittle Jaws, I loved him dearly .... and to be honest I'd just assume give up a testicle than sell one of these cats, but for the health of the fish I would ... I'll certainly keep you in mind if it comes to that, I'm close enough to places that ship that I think it is possible, but jesus are they big! Lol, thought the net was gonna break getting them out .... wish someone was around to get a pic when I was holding the cats! Anyway thanks for the kind words, and in a way it is a relief to not live in fear for every fish in the tank, and the pups as well

This thread really has everything: amazing Fish, extremely interesting discussions on filtration and nice pics and vídeos. One cannot ask for more!

Having said that, bad news reg the GATF, a truly impressive specimen, but like you say, we play with matches... Happened to me this weekend when i moved a RTM (cichlid) to the big tank after several months raising it. I thought it was big enough to hold his piece, but the RTG arowana didn't agree. I woke up with an aro with a fat belly...

Thanks dude, yeah it totally sucks, sorry to hear .... one thing is a guarantee in this hobby ... big fish will eat small fish, its what they do ... just sucks when it happens in your tank!
