  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Na, no pond plans ... they will go back in the big tank, everyone else just needs to get bigger first ... my fear is them not doing well in my 220 gallon, but I think they'll be alright for a while .... but I do plan on building a tank in the 1200 gallon range to house everyone, hopefully, for life

I'm also interested in the new dwarf goonch info, spit it out chicx! :D

Why you say that Chix?

Well, as has been broached before, there's a species of Bagarius from SE Asia that was previously called Bagarius lica which was later rolled into B. yarrelli. The type specimen of the 'dwarf' B. bagarius was described from a single 8" specimen from SE Asia. There are no paratypes for this species. Dr. Ng, an eminent scientist on Asian catfish, mentioned in our correspondence that the current species breakdown of Bagarius is in desperate need of revision. I strongly suspect that B. lica is still valid as a species and that the dwarf species, if it actually exists, is not B. bagarius.

Long story short, I suspect that the 'dwarf' is in fact a juvenile B. lica and that they can in fact grow large. The impetus for this line of inquiry was the fact that I've found a few very large Bagarius who seem to have the same unusual head shape as the dwarves, but appear to be 2'+ in length.

Based on all of this, I'm especially curious to grow out my little Dottie to see what happens. What is really interesting to me is that the dwarves supposedly don't get bigger than 8" but mine is already pushing 10".

I went into much greater detail on this subject in the thread linked below.

Goonches in their new home .... I'll try for better pics at some point ... they dont look too crammed although they insist on sitting together in front of one of the bubbly powerheads rather than 1 to each like I'd hoped, but I did get a few pics while they were separate .... please excuse the tank, its quite the contraption ... its a real old glass 220 that I have resealed, but have a strap around it for peace of mind since it has no center brace and I've had 2 seams start spreading since I got it! Crazy!

They are both eating so I'm not too concerned for them at the moment ... hopefully they dont begin fighting!

Lol, they annoy me, they knock that wood pile over at least 3 times a day and it drives me crazy! Need a more permanent fix, but I dont want to change the amount of wood by adding a new piece cause I finally have a nice pH balance in there ... wish the damn things would go 1 on one end, and the other on the other, but no they'd rather squish in and bump and smash eachother, and everything else! Thanks Chub!

Must say, all the other fish in the 400 are much more at ease, to say the least, and the ATF's and Armatus especially are eating like horses! Hoping for some very nice growth in the next few months! Bambusa is also settling nicely, couple scratches, prob from Dorado, cause he gets nervous every time Dorado swims near, but he's no worse for the wear and eating lots! ... main issue with him is ever since I got him he had a kink on his gill plate ... I had hoped it would go away, hoping he just messed it up during shipping, but as time goes on its curling out more and more ... I've looked up some info on cutting the gill plate so it regrows normally just a little nervous to do it, still kind of hoping it corrects itself, but at this point I doubt it

I'm glad for you that moving them has helped everyone else calm down somewhat. :)
